Pumpkins are native to North America, with the oldest seeds found in Mexico dating back over 7,500 years. They were a vital “Three Sisters” crop for Indigenous peoples, grown alongside corn and beans. Early European settlers quickly adopted the pumpkin, as its thick skin allowed it to be stored through long, lean winters without spoiling.

Pumpkin is the definitive Autumn harvest. While they grow throughout the heat of summer, they reach full maturity and are traditionally harvested from September through October, just before the first heavy frost.
